August is Make a Will Month

Whether you are eyeing retirement, just got married, have a new baby, or simply own anything of value – you likely need a will. Without a will, upon your death, the laws of your state – not you – decide how your assets and other possessions are distributed or who will care for your minor children.

A will is also one of the simplest ways to ensure a legacy.

Keep in mind –

  • Estate planning and creating a will is empowering and provides peace of mind
  • Describing your wishes to your family or friends is not enough
  • Wills are not just for those who are “wealthy”
  • Your will can provide a lasting gift to those ministries that are important to you

If you already have a will, now is a good time to review it. Have there been any significant life changes that would affect your will? The three most significant changes are a death, birth, or marriage/divorce.

The Christian Church Foundation, Inc. helps Disciples move money to mission. To learn more about how you can include your congregation or cherished Disciples ministry in your will, contact your Zone Representative. Your Zone Representative can also help provide estate planning information you can use with your local estate advisors.
